2) Most importantly, H335 is unlike most all other powders in that it gets very nasty when loaded beyond listed data for your bullet. Quit chasing velocity and exceeding Max load data for H335 loads as H335 will return you damage to your gun and maybe you, too. It is unique in this regard, according to this article.
Re: H335 for 308. As mentioned by FLIGHT762 above, H335 is basicly WC844 which is a military powder for 223.If you go to WC846 you will find a more suitable 308 powder which throws just like H335,costs $94 for 8 lbs at Pat's Reloading. I find it to be just a little hotter than BLC2.Great barrel life.
1223 posts · Joined 2009. #1 · Dec 9, 2009 (Edited) I couldn't get any of my favorite W748 powder the last time I went shopping, so I got a couple of pounds of H335 to load a bunch of .223 Rem.'s. I'm going to be using a 55 gr. FMJ pill with a standard small rifle primer and new Federal brass. My research on-line and in my loading manuals ...
LDBennett. 10061 posts · Joined 2003. #7 · Jan 1, 2013. H335 is not a slow burning powder. On the Hodgdon powder relative burn Rates chart IMR3031 is 78 and H335 is 81. Varget, a common choice for 223, is 99. W748 is 101 on the list. So I suspect it is not the burn rate of the powder. It could be the short barrel.
Gustav7 said: When I first did my load development, I tried 77gr Nosler CC and 77gr TMK's with TAC. Ended up sticking with the TMK's but the Noslers weren't bad. I had two main loads for my 18" Lothar Walther barreled AR: 23.4gr TAC - roughly 2620fps. 24.5gr TAC - roughly 2740fps.
88. 23. 47. OHIO. Apr 9, 2022. #1. Due to the limited availability of powder, I am looking for any load data for this combination. I have used H335 for my 308 Win and figured it could be used in a pinch for the Creedmoor. I know it's a faster burning powder than is preferred, but has anyone used it for the Creedmoor?
But based on the data I did manage to collect, I'm seeing that it appears impossible to achieve 2970fps from a 14.5" M4 using this load, even at maximum --25gr. I read of others going as high as 25.6, that the LC brass and 5.56 chambers can handle it and that M855 is hot anyway (which makes sense, the stock ammo I compared against the handloads ...
65. Pacific Northwest. Apr 8, 2012. #3. Re: 77 SMK with H335. I don't, or yet, shoot that particular bullet. But, as far as H335 with that weight range projectile, I'd say no problem. I've used 23.5 gr. of H335 with a Berger 80.5 gr. LR with great results out of my 223 AI. Also I used 22.5 gr to do some fire forming.
24.3 of their WC-846 with CCI mil primers gave 2880fps out of an 18 inch barrel. American does auctions on Gunbroker, and you can get it a bit cheaper that way, but the bid lots are for 16 lbs, and they do not combine shipping. All that they are selling this week is WC-842. But that should be fine for 55gn.
I used H335 in 308 for my autoloaders, FAL's G3's AR10 etc, the powder meters well in dillon powder measures but that is about it. First accuracy test revealed some lacking in consistencies and it was temp sensitive. After asking around Palma matches, the consensus was to use varget instead, I did and couple things happened: first accuracy ...
