The Incorporated Village of Westbury is a village in the towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. It is located about 18 miles (29 km) east of Manhattan. The population was 15,404 at the 2020 census.
The home, originally called "White Eagle", was built between 1916 and 1918 for Alicia Heyward (née Bradford) Maddox, the second wife of Alfred I. du Pont and daughter of Judge Edward Bradford. It was designed by the architectural firm of Carrère and Hastings in the Georgian Revival style and the interiors were designed by Charles of London. [ 2 ]
Salisbury (formerly known as South Westbury) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 12,093 at the 2010 census. Many Levitt style homes lie adjacent to Eisenhower Park (formerly known as Salisbury Park).
The primary cross roads where the hamlet is located are Westbury Cut-off Road (CR 267), Westbury Road (CR 266, CR 268) and Victory Road (CR 108). N.Y. Route 370 passes just west of Westbury. The hamlet is a short drive from N.Y. Route 104 , N.Y. Route 104A and Ridge Road (CR 163).
Historically, I.U. Willets Road once continued west past its current western terminus, connecting to Old Court House Road, thence New Hyde Park Road, and ending at the former Little Neck–Old Westbury Road (NY 25D); NY 25D was eventually replaced in the area by the Long Island Expressway (I-495).
Old Westbury Gardens is the former estate of businessman John Shaffer Phipps (1874–1958), an heir to the Phipps family fortune, in Nassau County, New York. Located at 71 Old Westbury Road in Old Westbury, the property was converted into a museum home in 1959. It is open for tours from April through October.
