George McClellan (December 22, 1796 – May 9, 1847) was a 19th-century American surgeon.He is best known for founding the Jefferson Medical College and the Medical Department of Pennsylvania College, and his pioneering work in surgery, including writing a widely used textbook.

George McClellan was born in Philadelphia on October 29, 1849. [1] He attended the University of Pennsylvania for undergraduate study, beginning in 1865; however, in 1868 he left the University of Pennsylvania during his senior year in order to begin medical school at Jefferson Medical College. [1]
