The 9th Infantry Division (nicknamed "Old Reliables") is an inactive infantry division of the United States Army. It was formed as the 9th Division during World War I , but never deployed overseas. In later years it was an important unit of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Vietnam War .

In 1973, Fort Carson closed the Recondo school, but retained the mountaineering cadre. The mountaineering course and cadre were reassigned to the 1/10th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, as a nod to the 10th Mountain Division, which had been created during World War II (1943) and inactivated in 1958 (reactivated later in 1985).
It was later the base camp for the 9th Infantry Division from January 1967 until the division moved to Đồng Tâm Base Camp near Mỹ Tho in late 1967. The camp was located on Route 15 , 16 km southeast of Biên Hòa. [ 1 ]
On 1 June 1967, the Mobile Riverine Force (MRF) comprising the 2nd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division and the US Navy River Assault Squadrons 9 and 11 was established at Đồng Tâm. By this time the base occupied 12 square kilometres and included a 500m runway and a loading basin for boats.
IX Corps was formed from 25 to 29 November 1918 in Ligny-en-Barrois, France. [2] It was demobilized in France on 5 May 1919. [3] IX Corps was subordinate to Second United States Army, and after moving its headquarters to Saint-Mihiel, and commanded forces along the armistice line between Jonville-en-Woëvre and Fresnes-en-Woëvre until its deactivation.
