Wayne Howard Joseph Fontes (/ f ɒ n t s /; born February 17, 1940) is a former American football coach and college and professional football player who was the head coach of the National Football League (NFL)'s Detroit Lions from 1988 to 1996. He is the longest tenured head coach in team history.
He was also a member of the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, and Detroit Lions. He is known for his aggressive style of play-calling. After retiring as a player, Campbell pursued a coaching career and held his first head coaching position as the interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2015. He was named the head coach of the Lions in 2021.
