Sind (sometimes called Scinde, Sindhi: سنڌ ) was a province of British India from 1 April 1936 to 1947 and Dominion of Pakistan from 14 August 1947 to 14 October 1955. Under the British, it encompassed the current territorial limits excluding the princely state of Khairpur .
The Thatta Sarkar (1593–1629), Thatta Subah (1629–1737) or Sind State (1737–1843), also referred to as Scinde or Sindh, was a Mughal Sarkar later a Subah, then a proto-state, and lastly a princely state in the Sindh region of the Indian subcontinent until its annexation by the East India Company in 1843.

The Governor's provinces of British India were subdivided into divisions, which were themselves subdivided into districts. On 1 April 1936 Sind division separated from Bombay Presidency and established a Province.
Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Sind were held in January and February 1937. [1] These were the first elections in the province after its creation in 1936. The Communal Award of 1932 had allocated sixty assembly seats to Sind, based on which it now formed an assembly of its own.
