Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU; ISO: Javāharalāla Neharū Viśvavidyālaya) is a public research university located in Delhi, India. It was established in 1969 and named after Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. The university is known for leading faculties and research emphasis on social sciences and applied sciences.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was established on 2 October 1972, by an act of State Legislature. On its formation, the Government Engineering Colleges at Anantapur, Kakinada and Hyderabad, along with the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture at Hyderabad, became its constituent colleges.
The date of establishment of all four institutes is therefore 2008, though Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was established in 1972 by The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Act, 1972 [35] which is what the UGC lists as the establishment date for Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.

The School was created on the suggestion of the then Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, that there was the need for an institution to help build a pool of academic experts on international affairs and area studies who could give an informed second opinion on India's relations with the world.
