Waluigi (English: / ˌ w ɑː l u ˈ iː dʒ i, ˌ w ɒ l-/) [b] is a character in the Mario franchise. He plays the role of Luigi's arch-rival and accompanies Wario in spin-offs from the main Mario series, often for the sake of causing mischief.
Introduced in the international Super Mario Bros. 2, but more commonly portrayed as an enemy to Yoshi since Yoshi's Island. It originally appeared in the Japanese game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic (1987). This game was later adapted for international audiences as Super Mario Bros. 2, integrating Shy Guy into the Mario universe.
