Located on the southeastern coast of Spain, Mijas belongs to the region of Costa del Sol Occidental. [2] Its center is a typical Andalusian white-washed village, Mijas Pueblo , located on a mountainside about 430 metres or 1,476 feet above sea level , in the heart of the Costa del Sol region.

La Cala de Mijas (English: Mijas Bay) forms part of the Municipality of Mijas in the province of Málaga, Andalusia, southern Spain.. In the middle of the Costa del Sol, La Cala is located in the coastal zone of the municipality, and except for a few rocks is practically urbanized within a 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) radius.
The town was developed by D. Juan de Orbaneja in 1963, [1] occupying the space between Marbella and Mijas. The town was affected by wildfires on September 11 and 12 of 2011, and again in September 2012.
