Royal Oak Schools (formerly Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools) is a school district in Greater Detroit, Michigan. The district provides public school services for the municipality of Royal Oak and the easternmost portion of Berkley. [1] The district adopted the "Royal Oak Schools" branding in the early 2010s. [note 1] [2]
Opened in 1927 as Royal Oak High School, it was renamed as Dondero High School in 1957 after Clarence M. Kimball High School opened. [ 2 ] Due to declining enrollment, the school became a middle school at the beginning of the 2007/2008 school year.
Berkley High School has been accredited by the Michigan North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement since the 1928–29 school year. [ 7 ] As of the 2012–13 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,250 students and 74.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 18.1.
