Medicine Bow–Routt National Forest is the official title to a U.S. Forest Service managed area extending over 2,222,313 acres (8,993.38 km 2) [3] in the states of Wyoming and Colorado, United States.

The range is drained along the western flank by the Michigan and Canadian rivers, tributaries of the North Platte in North Park.
The Platte River Wilderness is primarily located in south central Wyoming, with a small section extending into Colorado in the United States.Located entirely within Medicine Bow - Routt National Forest, the wilderness was created in 1984 to protect the forestlands adjacent to the North Platte River.
Much of the range lies within the Medicine Bow – Routt National Forest. Protected areas include the Encampment River Wilderness, the Huston Park Wilderness, [7] and parts of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness.
Medicine Bow Peak (12,018 ft (3,663 m)) is the highest peak in the Snowy Range, a part of the Medicine Bow Mountains, about 35 miles (56 km) west of Laramie, Wyoming. It lies within Medicine Bow National Forest and is the highest point in southern Wyoming.
It is managed together with Medicine Bow - Routt National Forest from Forest Service offices in Laramie, Wyoming; its local ranger district office is in Douglas. [3]

Vedauwoo is located in the Medicine Bow - Routt National Forest and includes a day-use picnic area and an overnight campground. It is also a popular climbing area. Interstate 80 passes just south of the main rock outcroppings and well-marked highway signs indicate the exit to use in order to reach Vedauwoo.
