The Crocheron–McDowall House is a two-story Greek Revival-style house located in Bastrop, Texas, United States. The house was built in 1857 for wealthy New York merchant Henry Crocheron and his wife Mary Ann Tipple. Crocheron wanted a home that displayed his wealth, and built it with the finest-available materials and architectural decorations.
The site of the Luckett house was originally occupied by the Bastrop Academy, [2] one of the leading schools in Texas. [3] Citizens of Bastrop founded the academy in 1851 and the school received its charter on January 24, 1852. It was rechartered under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1853.

The town was founded in 1903, when John C. Phelan established the Independence Mining Company of Fort Worth to develop a lignite coal property in Bastrop County.
