[ 6 ] It is home to Illinois College , Illinois School for the Deaf , and the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired , and was formerly home to MacMurray College .

Illinois Route 267 (Main Street) runs through the village center, leading north as Jacksonville's Main Street 2 miles (3 km) to the city center and south 6 miles (10 km) to Woodson. The Interstate 72 / U.S. Route 36 freeway runs along the southern edge of the village, with access from Exit 64 (IL 267).

The Jacksonville, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in west central Illinois, anchored by the city of Jacksonville. As of the 2000 census, the μSA had a population of 42,153 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 40,090). [1]
