Holly is the starting point of the Shiawassee River Heritage Water Trail at WaterWorks Park. [13] Mount Holly, a large ski/snowboard resort in southeastern Michigan, is located 3 miles (5 km) northeast of the village in Groveland Township. Nearby is the state-owned Holly Recreation Area.
Holly was the last of Oakland County's townships to be organized. It was organized on 6 March 1838. [6] Holly's oldest cemetery, Oak Hill Cemetery, was established around Holly's incorporation as a Township. There are veterans from every major war interred at Oak Hill, dating back to the Revolutionary War.
