The Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier (French: Cathédrale Saint-François-Xavier) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada.It is located at 514, rue Racine Est in the Saguenay borough of Chicoutimi, overlooking the old port area of the town.
The Conservatoire de musique de Saguenay was founded in Chicoutimi in 1967, and the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi was founded in 1969. The city played host to the Quebec Summer Games in 1972. In the municipal amalgamations of 1976, Chicoutimi annexed the neighbouring towns of Chicoutimi-Nord and Rivière-du-Moulin.
Chicoutimi is about 200 kilometres (120 miles) north of Quebec City and 126 kilometres (78 miles) northwest upriver from Tadoussac, at the confluence of the St. Lawrence River. Chicoutimi station is a former Canadian National Railway Company railway station in the Chicoutimi borough of the city of Saguenay in Quebec's Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. [1] [2] When the station was built, it was adjacent to Chicoutimi's port. [1] All train service to Chicoutimi ended in 1988.
