Located in Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, the college has two campuses; Riverside Campus situated on the River Clyde and City Campus located in the city centre. [3] The City Campus was opened in 2016 and Riverside Campus was opened in 1969 as the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies and underwent an extensive refurbishment, opening in 2015.

Central College merged with two other city centre colleges – Metropolitan, and Nautical – to form a "super college" that is the biggest in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK. The Central College Board and staff had originally opposed the plan, but after much negotiation among the three Colleges, the merger was agreed. [ 5 ]
The college operated in two main campuses and in over 80 community based venues spanning much of the South side of Glasgow, including at Rutherglen, [1] [2] Govanhill, Castlemilk and Toryglen. [3] Phase 1 of a newly built main campus was opened in May 2009 while Phase 2, incorporating new sport, music and drama facilities, opened in August 2010.

The junior college expanded from the Riverside Poly campus and in 1924 constructed the first two buildings of the campus quadrangle in 1924. [5] When Riverside Poly re-located to its own campus on Victoria Avenue in 1965 the college assumed total control of the Magnolia property.
