The Chaserider brand name, which refers to Cannock Chase, was first used by Midland Red from 1977 [2] until 1992.. During November 2020, Centrebus Group subsidiary D&G Bus announced they would be taking over the Cannock depot of Arriva Midlands from the end of January 2021 with operations in Cannock and Stafford running under the revived Chaserider brand.
In February 2022, Chaserider announced that it would withdraw the Saturday service and some late afternoon journeys due to low passenger numbers, starting on 20 February. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] The route was later proposed for complete withdrawal, however, in May 2022 it was announced that it would be retained.

D&G Bus was formed by David Reeves and Gerald Henderson in April 1998 initially operating four buses on two routes under contract to Stoke-on-Trent City Council. It expanded with both route and school services in Cheshire and Staffordshire with 16 buses by the end of 1998. In April 2005 D&G Bus purchased Wednesfield based Midland.
In 2018 the Cannock depot began closing entirely on Sundays due to county council subsidy cuts, leaving Cannock without buses, with the Cannock depot being sold to D&G bus in January 2021. In 2023, Arriva announced that it planned to close the Oswestry depot as a result of low patronage and financial difficulties following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Select Bus began operating service 71 following Arriva axing the service while D&G Bus began operating services 2 & 70 in January 2021 following the acquisition of Arriva's Cannock depot. In May 2021, Chaserider announced a number of service changes which came into effect on 21 June 2021. [ 4 ]

Prior to 2008, the area was largely covered by West Midlands Travel and Chase Bus. The area was adopted by Arriva Midlands under the 'Chase Linx' brand which became 'Sapphire'. In 2020, Arriva's Cannock depot was brought by D&G Bus under the Chaserider brand who took over service 1 (from Arriva) and 71 (from Select Bus).
