What I am unsure of is what is actually a safe target for towing without ruining my transmission and what I can tow with the stock setup. What, if any upgrades I should think about. (air bags, etc...) I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Classic with the 3.6L V-6. Axle Ratio is 3.55, Per the attached chart it says my max trailer weight is 7400lbs.
How to find my towing capacity/. In the Fall of 2019 I bought a used 2018 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 5.7L V8 Hemi 4wd truck with the 5'6" bed on it. I did get it from the dealership and it was slightly used, had roughly 3,000 miles on it. It does not have a tow hitch installed nor does it have the electronic trailer brake controller...
I have had two 2500s after a 1500, so much better for towing in the 2500. And it will let you upgrade to larger if you want. With my 2500 I have 3k payload capacity. With my additions of a bed cover and steps I would still be able to tow your trailer and carry a golf cart in my bed and still have the family in the cab.
Engine. Hemi 5.7 VVT. suicideking said: I'm considering a RAM 1500. It would be a crew cab, short bed, 5.7 V8 engine. The most common gear ratio is the 3.21 which will be 8120lbs. I would need 3.92 gears to get the higher capacity of 11,220. The only model I've found that consistently comes with the 3.92 gears is the Rebel.
So far, the leader is a Grey Wolf 21RR, dry hitch of 693 ( I used 1000 as a guide on the slider tool), 4337 dry weight, plus 2000 for quads, gear, etc, gets me to 6400 roughly. I am hoping the 3.21's have no problem with 6400, which I feel they wont. Jan 30, 2014. #13.

Ram Year. 2017. Engine. 3.6 V6. A string of unusual events has lead to me owning and wanting to pull a travel trailer camper. I have a 2017 1500 V6, with 3.21 gear ratio. It does have the towing package but no integrated brake. The camper has a dry weight of 5600 lbs.
Adding a hitch receiver, the hitch plus WDH setup will subtract about 150 pounds from your PC, or 1400 (rounded) - 150 = 1,250 PC for occupants, gear in truck, any aftermarket accessories that might have been added to truck. When buying trailer, don't rely on dry weight to do math for tongue weight.
