It requires using the bell housing from the diesel transmission, and requires some other work, but it's a much stronger transmission. I let it set in my garage for a couple of weeks and got in it this weekend and noticed that there was antifreeze in the floorboard, so I am sure the heater core is leaking.
The LUV's C223 diesel engine makes 58 HP @ 4300 RPM and 93 FT LBS @ 2200 RPM. It's not known as a power maker, but I think you could do some mods, including turbocharging it to maybe gain up to 20-30 horses out of it. Mainly they are an awesome engine in that they get extremely good fuel mileage. I'd always average at least 37 mpg in my truck ...
The most recent one i saw also had a custom made intake manifold not sure if thats necessary or not im not a diesel guy. But there are a couple threads on here if you do a search do not expect to run a lot of boost the non turbo engine can't take it you will be limited to something like 5-7psi with the stock rods.. talk to oldestisizuist or ...
According to my 1982 Chevy LUV factory shop manual it says the standard for the glow plugs is 8-9 volts. When you turn the starter switch on, glow plug relay #1 should make a clicking noise within 5 to 9 seconds. So if your glow plugs are reading a 6.25 I would change all 4 of them.
