Those seem a bit heavy for that lap steel. Try a set of regular gauge electric guitar strings (.013 to .056) and see if those work well for you. _____ Brad’s Page of Steel A web site devoted to acoustic & electric lap steel guitars

My preference is to go with the extremely slightly heavier gauge, so I use the E7 set and avoid the too light E13 set. C6 = 15, 18, 22, 24w, 30w, 36w. A6 = 15, 17, 22, 26w, 30w, 34w.
I walked into Guitar Center the other day in Spokane Washington, and they had on the self d'Addario set of E9 pedal steel strings for $18.89, not sure and I don't keep up with prices, but I thought that was really high. GHS PF 500 pure nickel rollerwound (sort of semi- flat) is what I’ve been using for years.
Hi, my first post. I'm new to this world: I've just got my first lap steel. I'm planning to play in open G (D G D G B E) and open Em (E B E G B E), and I was hoping I could find a set of strings that could work for both tunings well.

When they lose sustain, or tone, or 1 breaks, I change them. I usually change them in about 3 months, sometimes sooner. I change mine when the wound strings start to 'thunk' rather than ringing clearly and cleanly. And I guess three months would be about average.

Set your bridge saddles in a straight line, as close to 22-3/4" from the back edge of the nut to the top of each saddle as you can get them. To verify the scale length, measure from the back edge of the nut to the center of the twelfth fret. The guitar's scale would be double this measurement. Glenn Wilde.

If it's 22.5 or 23", the heavy 16 - 56 strings will be a lot less tension, and feel loose compared to the 25" scale of a typical Dobro style resonator guitar. Lighter strings will feel a LOT looser. I use a G tuning on my lap steel, National Dynamic with 23" scale, and ...
