I’ve had my dogs on 4 different kibbles in the last 10 years and every one has failed me after 2-4 years. All of the canned food on DFA contain carrageenan or tomato or guar gum or even flaxseed (they get rancid pretty fast so I’m not convinced that it’s such a good thing). So now I’m down to cooking for my dogs or going raw.

With regard to Mojo’s weight, some dogs can take a month or more to regain after starting prednisone. There is a yahoo group called ibdogs which is especially for people with dogs with confirmed IBD. I believe a dog in Maddies health cannot tolerate any problems that commercial dog food can have. Raw is good for many dogs but you can’t take the chance with dogs in Maddies condition. An interesting comment from the new vet: some dogs with IBD respond to a diet change and the others will always be on medication.

You have to go trough a wait period to get excepted into the group. There is a lot of input from owners. It is here where a person had his dog on the Rayne wet food for the past year with excellent results. He said “I think all IBD dogs should be on this food”. If wet is too expensive for you you can go dry or mix the two together.
