Flora in the Sistan Basin is negatively affected by the intensity of the 120-day wind and by blown sand associated with it. The wind can reach speeds of 10 metres per second (36 km/h; 22 mph) at 10 metres (33 ft) above ground level and up to 20 metres per second (72 km/h; 45 mph) 300–500 metres (1,000–1,600 ft) above ground level.
