Resort architecture [1] (German: Bäderarchitektur) is an architectural style that is especially characteristic of spas and seaside resorts on the German Baltic coast. The style evolved since the foundation of Heiligendamm in 1793, and flourished especially around the year 1870, when resorts were connected to big cities via railway lines.
DPZ has received numerous awards for its projects, including two National AIA Awards; the Thomas Jefferson Award; the Vincent Scully Prize; and two Governor's Urban Design Awards for Excellence. The firm's Seaside, Florida project was the first authentic new town to be built successfully in the United States in over fifty years.
Edward Burnham Tuttle Jr. (August 11, 1945 – June 21, 2020) was an American architect and interior designer best known for his works of hotel architecture. Among his most celebrated works is the Amanpuri hotel in Phuket, for which he was credited with setting a novel standard in resort design. [1]
The resort, which included beaches, pools, clubs, and gardens hosted famous movie and sports stars, and later Martin Luther King Jr. [7] The hotel was also the setting for the celebrity stalking case and shooting that inspired the novel and movie The Natural. The hotel buildings closed in 1967, and were soon after demolished.
Multiple renovations from 1985 to 2001 have updated and added to the hotel, including a 4,000-square-foot (370 m 2) spa, a signature restaurant, and a second outdoor swimming pool. After the addition of the full-service beach club and spa, the official name of the hotel was changed to The Don CeSar Beach Resort and Spa.
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaʻūpūlehu is a AAA Five Diamond rated Four Seasons resort in Kaʻūpūlehu, on the Kona-Kohala Coast of the island of Hawaiʻi.
