The off-side rule describes syntax of a computer programming language that defines the bounds of a code block via indentation. [1] [2]The term was coined by Peter Landin, possibly as a pun on the offside law in association football.
In computer programming, indentation style is a convention, a.k.a. style, governing the indentation of blocks of source code.An indentation style generally involves consistent width of whitespace (indentation size) before each line of a block, so that the lines of code appear to be related, and dictates whether to use space or tab characters for the indentation whitespace.
Common variations in the implementation of indentation include: how much to indent a block at each level of the code hierarchy, usually measured in spaces, and whether to store whitespace characters as space or tab characters. Although there are common practices, consensus is not universal.
|left= a.k.a. |em= the value (e.g. 0.1 or 7) in em units by which to indent the material from the left; defaults to 3 |right= the value, also in em, by which to indent the material from the right; defaults to 0 (use 7 to match the default left indentation) |style= arbitrary CSS declarations, e.g. font-size: 95%;. This parameter should not ...
A quick test suggests that the CodeEditor does not convert indents consisting of a string of spaces to tabs, so scripts will end up with weird mixtures. A tool to clean up should re-indent everything assuming 4-character column tabs as the default, but with an option to convert 8-character columns for old code.

Lint is the computer science term for a static code analysis tool used to flag programming errors, bugs, stylistic errors and suspicious constructs. [1] The term originates from a Unix utility that examined C language source code. [2]
Your reply to a particular comment should be indented beneath that comment. Indents are achieved by typing one or more leading colon : characters at the very left margin, just before the text you add. In the following example, a single colon was typed just before the "Me too" text of the second comment:
