St. Martinville (French: Saint-Martin) [2] is a city in and the parish seat of St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, United States. [3] It lies on Bayou Teche, 13 miles (21 km) south of Breaux Bridge, [4] 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Lafayette, [5] and 9 miles (14 km) north of New Iberia. [6]
In 1767, at the age of 17, Firmin found himself at the Bayou Tortue in Louisiana, while the rest of his family returned to Canada. [2] [3] By 1769, Firmin had moved into a house in present day St. James Parish, and had been married to his wife Marguerite Braud. He died October 1, 1808, in Breaux Bridge. [4]

Hayes is located in the southeastern corner of Calcasieu Parish, on the west bank of Bayou Lacassine, which forms the boundary with Jefferson Davis Parish. Louisiana Highway 14 runs through the center of the community, leading west 3 miles (5 km) to Bell City and south then east 18 miles (29 km) to Lake Arthur.
