Victor Edwin French (December 4, 1934 – June 15, 1989) was an American actor and director. [1] He is remembered for roles on the television programs Gunsmoke , Little House on the Prairie , Highway to Heaven , and Carter Country .
It was the final screen appearance for French, who died two months before the final episode aired, aged 54 years old; Landon went on to appear in two films, one of which was a pilot for a new series, prior to his own death at 54 in 1991. Highway to Heaven aired for five seasons, running a total of 111 episodes. [2]

In the Highway to Heaven episode 2.12 ("The Good Doctor"), the main character, Alex, tells Mark Gordon (Victor French) that "All I could see was the flowers and the beard. I thought you were Merlin Olsen." This is an inside joke since Olsen, Landon, and French were in the TV series Little House on the Prairie earlier in their careers.
