The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta is the diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, with jurisdiction over middle and north Georgia. It is in Province IV of the Episcopal Church and its cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Philip, is in Atlanta, as are the diocesan offices. [1]

Bennett Jones Sims (August 9, 1920 – July 17, 2006) was the sixth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, consecrated in 1972.Upon retirement from the Diocese in 1983, Sims founded the Institute for Servant Leadership at Emory University and served as president of the institute until 1999.
The first site for St. Philip's was in downtown Atlanta, across from the State Capitol on the corner of what is now Washington Street and Martin Luther King Drive. By 1875 the small church had grown to be the largest Episcopal church in Georgia, and in 1907 St. Philip's was named the cathedral of the Diocese of Atlanta, which was formed that same year.
Alexander was elected and ordained bishop of Atlanta in 2001, and was nominated for Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in 2006. The Rt. Rev. Henry Judah Mikell was the 292nd bishop consecrated in the Episcopal Church. The Mikell Memorial Chapel (1947) at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, Georgia, was named in Bishop Mikell's honor. Mikell was an initiate of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order and served as the 18th Knight Commander of the Order from 1926-1934.
Randolph Royall Claiborne Jr. (November 7, 1906 – February 22, 1986) was the 5th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, elected in 1952. Previously he had served as Bishop Suffragan in the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama.
