Hendricks County is part of Indiana's 4th congressional district, Indiana Senate districts 23 and 24, [28] and Indiana House of Representatives districts 28, 40, 47, and 91. [29] Hendricks County is a Republican stronghold. In only one election (1912) was the county carried by a Democratic presidential candidate since 1888.

Indiana State Road 267 formerly crossed US-36 in the center of Avon, leading north 5 miles (8 km) to Brownsburg and south 4 miles (6 km) to Plainfield, but that stretch of 267 was decommissioned in 2013, and the section through Avon is now officially called Avon Avenue.
A post office was established in 1836 under the name of Harrisburg but was later changed to Brownsburg, [6] since the name Harrisburg was being used by a post office in another Indiana county. From 1840 to 1870, Brownsburg tripled in size, increased from six to sixteen acres, and added its first church. The town's first election was held in 1848.
Pioneers who had settled on lowland near Columbus came to the hills to escape malaria. Others deliberately chose the hills having lived in mountains before they made the trip to Indiana in search of new land.
