The soundtrack to Maine Pyar Kiya featured eleven compositions by Raamlaxman [b] with the lyrics written by Dev Kohli and Asad Bhopali. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and Lata Mangeshkar recorded vocals for most of the tracks, while Lata's younger sister, Usha Mangeshkar and Shailendra Singh, the composer's favorite, had sung two tracks with Balasubrahmanyam and Lata.
Balasubrahmanyam's first work in Hindi films was, in Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981), [1] for which he received another National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. [2] In 1989, Balasubrahmanyam was the playback singer for actor Salman Khan in the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya. [3]

In the year 1988, Raamlaxman got a major break with Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). His composition earned him filmfare award for Best Music Director.The film set the record at its time for the most Filmfare awards won by a single film with seven, from thirteen nominations.
