The community was named by Doug Pardee and sales manager Jack Whiteman, in reference to its views of the Spring Mountains and its location in the Las Vegas Valley. [6] In 1981, residents grouped together to solicit the Clark County Commission to create an unincorporated town, which it did that May.
Sunrise Manor is a census-designated place [2] in Clark County, Nevada, United States, located on the western base of Frenchman Mountain, east of Las Vegas. The population was 205,618 at the 2020 census. [3] If Sunrise Manor were to be incorporated, it would be one of the largest cities in Nevada. Sunrise Manor was formed in May 1957. [4]
Sunrise was founded in 1958. It was designed by architect Hugh E. Taylor and built by Las Vegas developer Irwin Molasky alongside businessmen Moe Dalitz, Allard Roen and Merv Adelson. [1] The hospital established the area's first neonatal ICU in 1974. Sunrise received 199 wounded patients in the aftermath of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting. [2]
North Las Vegas was the subject of many annexation attempts from Las Vegas. On May 1, 1946, North Las Vegas was incorporated as a city. [11] In 1957, North Las Vegas planned to annex an area to its southeast, and in response, the Clark County Commission created the town of Sunrise Manor to prevent further annexation attempts. [15]
The shops connect to the casino floor at Caesars Palace. Upon opening, moving sidewalks allowed pedestrians to enter the mall from the Las Vegas Strip, although the only way to exit was through the casino. [3] [8] The 2004 expansion was built out to the Strip with the new three-story structure, eliminating the moving walkways.
