The Chrysler company was founded by Walter Chrysler on June 6, 1925, [12] [13] when the Maxwell Motor Company (est. 1904) was re-organized into the Chrysler Corporation. [14] [15] The company was headquartered in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park, [16] [17] [18] where it remained until completing the move to its present Auburn Hills location in 1996.
The term has thus become an inclusive word for any Chrysler-built vehicle— almost any Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Imperial, DeSoto, Fargo (Canada-only in later years) or Dodge Trucks/Ram. By extension, it is also used for Jeep and AMC vehicles built after Chrysler's 1987 buyout of American Motors Corporation, including the short-lived Eagle brand.

By 2001 and as of September 2009, the company had three marques worldwide: Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler. Effective October 2009, however, a fourth brand was established with the creation of the Ram brand, a breakout from the Dodge marque. Initially, the new brand consisted of the Ram full-size pickup, Dakota compact pickup and the Sprinter van. [12]
The fourth-generation Dodge Ram was introduced at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. [44] This generation was sold as the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 starting in Fall 2008. The 2500 and 3500 pickups were added for 2010, and the 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs were added for 2011.
