This condition started after installing Windows 10 Pro 64bit. They were initially seen by the file explorer and usable. They have disappeared some time later. They are still visible on device manager and it states that the latest driver is installed for each device. DA.
My disc reader has a small button on the faceplate. It can be hard to see. I press the button and - voila! - the tray opens and I can put in the disk. Another press on the button and the tray closes. Then I give the disc a few seconds to spin up and be recognized by Windows.
