The cables that I have says "Dish Network RG-59/U coaxial cable" But now I bought a Hopper, is there some better cable that can make a difference in viewing? Or is the above RG-59/U good enough?
My indoor antenna is currently connected to my TV with a RG6 coax cable but some channels are coming in spotty so I would like to try an amplifier. The amplifier is a universal RCA with a fixed RG59 coax that connects to the TV, will it be ok ? Basically RG6 connected from antenna to amp and a RG59 connected from amp to TV? Is this fine?
Before I knew it, the Tech talked me into doing the upgrade to the Hopper 3. He also informed me, that the coax cable that I had should have been changed with the Hopper. He did that, and I really am glad that he talked me into it, and yes, he did change the coax, and with that change the Hopper 3 rarely goes out!!!!
I had Dish installed 30 days ago and they placed a 222k receiver on the primary set with HDMI and wired the second set using the existing coax cable. The second set is suffering from image ghosting on all channels, guides, and menus. The set has been swapped.
It came with only 20 ft of rg6 coax. I called winegard questioning the amount of cable that can be used with the pathfinder x2. I was told 100 ft. of rg6 was the most that would work. Is this true. I use the satellite in my rv while camping and this could be a problem. I have used much more coax with the carryout with positive results.
You can find RG-11 F connectors and crimper but you might be better off ordering the cable with connectors attached or using another type of connector (UHF or N). In any case, use a length of RG-6 at each end to connect to receiver and LNB or switch to avoid the strain RG-11 would put on these devices.
As for the cable being tested/certified, in a Seattle office building, at 19 stories up from the demarc I had the phone company put in shielded twisted pair for a WAN connection. It tested fine for the data wires, but wouldn't work reliably. We replaced the cable, and upon testing it, we found 3' sections every 20 feet or so missing the shield.

I am suspending Directv service for 6 months and have bought a RCA ant751 HD antenna to be mounted outside. Can I simply unhook the coax from the Directv dish and hook my new antenna to the existing coax and equipment... Sounds too simple for it to really work..if so...is it that simple....without buying any new equipment?
I've noticed rapid corrosion on copper clad steel as well. That's one reason I never use cable company coax. They use steel center conductor coax for drop line strength, but it rusts too easily in our climate.
