14,112. 19,060. Colorado. Dec 11, 2020. #5. QL 280 rem please. I've got a custom shop 700 in a 280 remington with a 24" tube. If someone could please run it at max 270 pressures, with the 150g ballistic tip and 162g Amax with all powders, that would be awesome. Reason I ask at 270 pressures is because the 280 is historically down loaded to the...
Ammo and rifle selection is not as good as some, but are certainly available from most American manufacturers. The 280 Remington, AKA 7mm Express is based on the 30-’06 case necked to 7mm. After the 7mm Rem Mag was introduced, the 280 lost popularity and was reintroduced as the 7mm Express.
Match ammo doesn't seem to exist for the 280 caliber, which I knew before getting the rifle. So now I'm developing a load and I'm worried about the bullet type and my slow 1-10 twist with the 7mm bullets. I'm liking the 168 VLD Bergers, and Berger says a 1-10 will be OK, but I'd like a second opinion and other options if people think there is a ...
Oct 10, 2012. #12. Re: 280 Ackley Improved optimal twist rates. The 162 A Max is what I plan on shooting primarily as the lightest weight bullet and it is nice to see that a 1:9 twist works well the heavier bullets. My plan for lighter weight bullets and smaller game is to build a 260 remington.
Since at least some brass was to be fire-formed from 280 Remington - the rest I made by fire-forming 30-06, 270 and 25-06 using the "Cream of Wheat" method. First, I pulled the bullet from a factory fresh 280 round and head-spaced the barrel so there was slight resistance upon closing the bolt. I think Ackley called for four thousandths ...
The ammo for the 6.5 Creedmoor seems to be a lot harder to find at least in this area. What draws me to the 6.5 Creedmoor is that it seems like should recoil a lot less than the .280AI. While this gun will be used occasionally on a hunt, it will be at the range 90% of the time.
Sniperwannabee said: So ive heard a lot of good things lately about the 280 AI , I’m guessing it’s the same bolt face as the 6.5 prc then. 280 is a 308 boltface. 280AI does basically anything my 7 saum does but there’s availability of factory ammo.
The 280 AI seems tame enough, a good long range hunting rifle, and a caliber that should enjoy decent barrel life, all other things being equal. I'd like a 23" barrel but wonder if I shouldn't get a 24". I'll also do a lite weight build and with a NF 3.5-18x56 want the weight at something ≤ 7.25-7.50 lbs. With ammo, sling and a cheek pad it ...
Jul 9, 2017. #1. Work performed: - 1969 Win 70 LA trued and lapped. - action inletted for use with detachable mags. - bolt handle threaded with badger knob installed. - barrel chambered to 280 (throated for standard bullets like ELD, Noslers, and SMKs. Tried some Berger VLD and they shot great too.)
In a pinch, you can shoot factory .280 ammo. The .280 was really geared towards the 140-150 class bullets. It WILL shoot the heavier bullets, but the additional 5 percent capacity will give you a bit more velocity and the steeper shoulder means less trimming.
