I have a 1997 ford explorer with about 122K miles on it. Late last year I started getting automated calls about an extended car warranty that I can use for my vehicle repairs. I ignored these calls until January this year when I spoke with an associate. The associate tried to sweet talk me into buying a warranty with $299 dollar down and 12 monthly payments of about $199. He gave me a scanty ...

George_San_Jose1 August 20, 2022, 9:46pm 6. For most of the 2+ year Covid-era I’d been getting at least 3 or 4 marketing calls a day, usually at least one would be for a scam car warranty. I usually don’t answer, let the answering machine do the job, unless I know the person who’s calling from their caller ID.
I spoke too soon. I got like 5-6 scam calls yesterday so my number must have been sold on some list again. One was for a car warranty while another was student loans. Then I got 3x or so about a $1400 MacBook Pro that had been ordered on my Amazon account. I talked to the people and they had no clue why they had even called me.
It works with scammers no matter if it is a car warranty scam, student loan scam, tech support scam, or whatever. They avoid you and must put you on a “scammer do not call” list. VDCdriver September 1, 2022, 2:36pm
For instance, it has a timing belt, which should be replaced around 100,000 miles. That is maintenance and will cost you around $1000. Suspension repairs will be maintenance, too. An engine failure might be covered, depending on how it was maintained before you bought it (as well as after).
Missouri men offer their riches to end scam claims. Two Missouri brothers accused of misappropriating more than $100 million from U.S. Fidelis, once the nation's top seller of auto-service warranties, have agreed to turn over vacation homes, jewelry, a yacht and other riches to settle legal claims...
Most repairs won’t equal the cost of the extended warranty. And if a lot of major repairs are needed during that first 100K, chances are the car wasn’t really all that reliable. If you’re set on getting an extended warranty, get it from Subaru, NOT Costco. Aftermarket warranties have too much fine print, too many limitations
These so-called “extended warranty plans”, “vehicle breakdown protection plans”, etc. are a poorly-regulated type of pseudo-insurance, which almost never pays off for the consumer. Even when a covered breakdown occurs, the default reaction of the insurance company is going to be a denial, or a request to produce proof of maintenance ...
