The Bridge Apartments comprise four high-rise buildings, each 32 stories high and containing 240 apartments, for a total of 960 units in the entire complex. The second floor has laundry and community rooms; the lowest floor of residences is the third. The water and heating systems for the buildings are located below the ground floor. [1]
The Beaux-Arts luxury apartment building was designed by B. Stanley Simmons, for Lester A. Barr. The building has two wings: The first was built in 1905, and the second wing was constructed in 1911. [3] In 1982, Barr's grandson sold the building for $6.3 million to developers, who converted it to condominiums.
The Mendota, on 20th Street, was the first to be constructed in the neighborhood. It is one of 25 apartment buildings constructed in Kalorama Triangle between 1901-1927, mostly along Connecticut Avenue and Columbia Road due to access to streetcar lines.
