State Highway 32 (SH 32) is a New Zealand state highway in the Central North Island. It forms part of a western traverse of Lake Taupō and a less busy alternative to SH 1 , avoiding Taupō . [ 1 ]
Lake Taupō has a perimeter of approximately 193 km (120 mi) and a maximum depth of 186 m (610 ft). It is drained by the Waikato River (New Zealand's longest river), and its main tributaries are the Waitahanui River, the Tongariro River, and the Tauranga Taupō River. It is a noted trout fishery with stocks of introduced brown and rainbow trout.
SH 5 once ran through central Rotorua. The old route left the current route at the Lake Road traffic lights, and followed the route of Lake Road, Ranolf Street, Amohau Street, Fenton Street, and Hemo Road, where it re-merges with the current section. Today, it follows Old Taupo Road, which bypasses the central city to the west.
