The New York Marriott World Trade Center, also known as 3 World Trade Center (3 WTC), was a 22-story, 825-room hotel in New York City, within the original World Trade Center complex in downtown Manhattan. It opened in April 1981 as the Vista International Hotel, the first major hotel since 1836 to open in Manhattan south of Canal Street.
In the early 1980s, Marriott struggled to find locations that fitted the existing Marriott brand. To broaden selection, the company created Courtyard for business and pleasure travelers. The new brand focused on smaller properties in lower demand areas. The chain grew from three test sites in 1983 to over 90 hotels in 1987. [2]
The Marriott World Trade Center, formerly the Vista International Hotel prior to 1995, was part of the original World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan. The hotel was damaged during the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and was completely destroyed by the collapse of the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks .
