In 2003, the "Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Cauldron Park" was opened at the southern end of Rice-Eccles Stadium, near where the cauldron had stood during the Games. The park contained the cauldron, the Hoberman Arch, and other features such as a visitor center. Overtime, features of the park became disused and some were removed.
The legislature appropriated $2.4M for a new visitors' center. In 1996, the park was designated This Is The Place State Park by the State Centennial Commission. In 1998, the state legislature approved the creation of the private, non-profit This Is The Place Foundation that would manage the Park.
