The Boston University Terriers men’s ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Boston University. They played their first game in 1918 [ 2 ] and have won five national championships, while making 24 appearances in the Frozen Four .
The 2024–25 Boston University Terriers Men's ice hockey season will be the 103rd season of play for the program and 41st in Hockey East.The Terriers will represent Boston University in the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season, played their home games at Agganis Arena and were coached by Jay Pandolfo in his 3rd season.
Boston University's most productive period was the 1970s and saw them win 4 conference titles, 5 conference tournament titles and 3 national championships. The same decade also brought about the beginning of the longest tenure for one coach at any division I school when Jack Parker started a 40-year stint in 1973–74 . [ 2 ]
It is named after Harry Agganis, a football and baseball player for BU. [6] The ice hockey rink is named Jack Parker Rink, after the legendary BU hockey player and coach. [7] The arena is part of Boston University's John Hancock Student Village, which also includes dormitories and the university's five-story Fitness and Recreation Center.
Boston University's team nickname is the Terriers, and the official mascot is Rhett the Boston Terrier. The school colors are Scarlet and White. [3] The majority of Boston University's teams compete as members of the Patriot League, with the ice hockey teams competing in Hockey East and rowing competing in the EARC.
The BU men's hockey team returned to Walter Brown for the first time in nearly ten years on Dec. 19, 2014 for an exhibition game against the United States men's national junior ice hockey team. [6] On December 30, 2022, the BU Men's Hockey team returned to Walter Brown for the first regular season game held with fans since January 2nd, 2005.
