Roger Harry Daltrey CBE (born 1 March 1944) is an English singer, musician and actor. He is the co-founder and lead singer of the rock band the Who. [1] [2]
The Who are an English rock band formed in London in 1964. Their classic lineup (1964–1978) consisted of lead vocalist Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon.
The band were first founded by Roger Daltrey under the name the Detours in 1959: the first line-up, in mid-1961, included Pete Townshend on lead guitar, Daltrey on rhythm guitar, John Entwistle on bass, Harry Wilson on drums, and Colin Dawson on vocals. [3]

Daltrey relinquished the role of guitarist to Townshend in 1963, instead becoming frontman and lead vocalist. [citation needed] The band considered several changes of name, finally settling on the name the Who while Entwistle was still working as a tax clerk (temporarily performing as the High Numbers for four months in 1964). [14]
Both Townshend and Daltrey stated that Starkey was the best match for the band since the death of Keith Moon. Starkey with Roger Daltrey of the Who in concert.
