Debabrata Maiti obtained B.Sc. degree in chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira of University of Calcutta in 2001, secured the M Sc degree in chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2003 and Ph D degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2008 under the supervisopn of Kenneth D. Karlin.

After initial training during 1960–62, he worked on a research problem suggested by Prof. M.S.
