Albany (/ ɔː l ˈ b ɪ n i / awl-BIN-ee) is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia.Located on the Flint River, it is the county seat of Dougherty County, and is the sole incorporated city in that county.

Albany was later served by seven railroad lines, adding to its significance as a market center. The city was a center of the Civil Rights Movement, particularly during the early 1960s.
Jewel expanded their food store holdings by acquiring Cambridge-based Star Market in 1964 [28] and the Great Falls-based Buttrey Food Stores in 1966 [14] to add to their existing Jewel and Eisner food store chains. The acquisition of Star Market also gave Jewel control of Brigham's Ice Cream, which had been a part of Star since 1961. [29]
