Lewis Byington Ford (November 1, 1890 – January 19, 1985) was a Monterey Peninsula real estate developer who developed Pebble Beach and Carmel Woods. Ford established the Carmel Valley Airport, the first airpark of its kind in the United States, and developed a nearby business district. [3]
Pebble Beach is an unincorporated community on the Monterey Peninsula in Monterey County, California, United States.The small coastal residential community of mostly single-family homes is also notable as a resort destination, and the home of the golf courses of Cypress Point Club, Monterey Peninsula Country Club, and Pebble Beach Golf Links.
On February 1, 1919, Samuel F. B. Morse formed the Del Monte Properties and purchased extensive real estate holdings on the Monterey Peninsula. He hired East Coast architects, Charles B. Macdonald and his associate, Seth Raynor to design the Dunes course in 1924. Raynor died in 1926 before construction was complete.
Later he became a real estate developer, helping guide a 500-acre industrial park in Philadelphia to completion. Graves moved back to Los Angeles in 1965, continuing his real estate career with the Tishman Realty and Construction Company and later with Conrad Associates; he retired in 1983 and moved to Northern California.
