Saint Patrick Church is the second-oldest Catholic church building in Columbus. [11] The structure served as the pro-cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus until the consecration of Saint Joseph Cathedral. It has been served by priests of the Dominican Order since 1885. [12] It is also an Ohio historical site. [13]
In January 2022, the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, otherwise known as Mercedarians, sent two priests to the parish at the invitation of then-bishop of Columbus Robert J. Brennan. The order plans to establish a house for student brothers attending the Pontifical College Josephinum in the convent on the property. [9]
