ECAT is a prerequisite for admission in the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, its affiliated institutions and all other public sector engineering institutions in the Punjab. [1] From entry 2023 to onwards, it is also a prerequisite for admission in private engineering universities of Punjab.

[2] In addition to the top ten and general rankings, independent rankings are also provided for universities and institutes in the categories of agriculture and veterinary science; arts and design; business; engineering and technology; and medicine. In 1969, EME School was given the status of a college and civilians were also admitted. In 1981, a BSc program started at EME and a few years later in April 1984, EME moved to its current location in Rawalpindi from Quetta. From 1984 to 1993, it was affiliated with the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore.
