Stockbridge is a village in Ingham County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located within Stockbridge Township about 36 miles (58 km) southeast from downtown Lansing . The population was 1,218 at the 2010 census .
The village of Stockbridge, which was settled soon after, served as the main population center. The current township hall was constructed in Stockbridge in 1892. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and also as a Michigan State Historic Site in 1987.
The village of Stockbridge was platted in 1842, but grew slowly until the construction of the railroad in the 1880s. Until that time, township meetings were held in a school house, or the town clerk's office, but with the 1880s growth came a need for a dedicated town hall.
