This course is designed to assess and evaluate the mental and physical endurance of officers and soldiers aspiring to join an elite unit in the Malaysian Army. It serves the purpose of acquainting participants with the roles, challenges, and responsibilities they will encounter upon becoming members of the Malaysian Rapid Deployment Force.
The Special Forces Selection is the recruitment, selection, and training process for candidates of the Special forces units in Malaysia.This selection process is not limited only to the special forces of the Malaysian Armed Forces but also includes the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Coast Guard, and the Johor Military Forces, which is a private army of the state of Johor.
Basic Parachutist Course – Airborne Training at the Special Warfare Training Centre; Basic Rapid Deployment Force Course – The Malaysian Army’s equivalent of the U.S. Army’s Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) Before 2020, the brigade was classified as a standard infantry unit with airborne capabilities.
On 1 August 1976, the training centre was established at Sungai Udang Camp in Malacca as Pusat Latihan Peperangan Khas Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (PLPK ATM). By 1 January 1977, the centre had become fully operational and had begun conducting special forces selection.
The unit currently has three squadron, 881 Army Aviation Regiment, 882 Army Aviation Regiment and 883 Army Aviation Regiment. The main Army Air Corps base is located in Kluang , Johor. As 2019, the Air Corps is equipped with 10 AgustaWestland AW109 light helicopters and 14 Sikorsky S61A-4 medium helicopter.
