Wiley University (formerly Wiley College) is a private historically black college in Marshall, Texas. Founded in 1873 by the Methodist Episcopal Church 's Bishop Isaac Wiley and certified in 1882 by the Freedman's Aid Society , it is one of the oldest predominantly black colleges west of the Mississippi River .

The 1921 Wiley Wildcats football team was an American football team that represented Wiley College during the 1921 college football season.The Wiley team met Talladega in a post-season game on December 9 to determine the black college football national championship; the game ended in a 7–7 tie and both teams are recognized as co-champions.
The 1957 Wiley Wildcats football team represented Wiley College as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) during the 1957 college football season.Led by 27th-year head coach Fred T. Long, the Wildcats compiled an overall record of 10–0–1, with a conference record of 6–0, and finished as SWAC champion.
1920 — The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) was founded. Charter members included Bishop College, Paul Quinn College, Prairie View State Normal & Industrial College (now Prairie View A&M University), Samuel Huston College (Huston–Tillotson University), Texas College and Wiley University, effective beginning the 1920–21 academic year.
