Hillsboro is a city in and the county seat of Hill County, Texas, United States. It is located between Dallas , Fort Worth and Waco , directly on Interstate 35 in North Central Texas. Hillsboro draws trade from throughout the county, and from Interstate 35 travelers between Dallas, Fort Worth, and Waco.

At the northern edge of Hillsboro, the highway has an interchange with Spur 579, which provides access to I-35, as well as US 77, just south of the point at which the freeway splits into I-35W and I-35E. North of Hillsboro, SH 81 roughly parallels I-35W, which lies to the east. [3]
The Hill County Courthouse is a courthouse building in the town of Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The building was designed by architect W.C. Dodson using a Second Empire style. It was completed in 1890. [2] [3] [4]
Interstate 35W (I-35W [a]), a north–south Interstate Highway, is the western half of I-35 where it splits to serve the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. I-35 splits into two branch routes, I-35W and I-35E, at Hillsboro.
The highway runs in a northwest direction again, running through the towns of Hubbard and Malone before entering Hillsboro. SH 171 runs through the town overlapped with State Highway 22, before running in a mostly north direction towards Cleburne. In Cleburne, SH 171 shares an overlap with State Highway 174 through the city.
The 1936 Official Map of the Highway System of Texas clearly shows the route labeled both as US 81 and SH 2. It was cosigned with US 83 for 18 miles (29 km) from Laredo to 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Webb, with US 79 for 18 miles (29 km) from Austin north to Round Rock, and with US 77 for 33 miles (53 km) from Waco to Hillsboro.
